Valley Academy for the Arts is proud to present its original ballet adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are—a heartwarming and imaginative performance that invites audiences of all ages to explore the power of creativity, emotion, and transformation through the language of dance.

Set in motion by the whimsical and beloved storybook, this production follows Maxine, a spirited and strong-willed young girl whose wild imagination often gets her into trouble. After causing mayhem at home, Maxine is sent to her room—where fantasy and reality begin to blur. In a stunning dreamscape conjured by her emotions, she sets sail across a vast ocean and arrives at a mysterious island inhabited by curious, comical, and magical creatures known as the Wild Things.

As Maxine is crowned their queen, she dances through moments of joy, discovery, and inner reflection. The ballet uses richly expressive movement and original choreography to bring Maxine’s inner journey to life—highlighting the emotions children often feel but cannot always express.

This production is a shining example of Valley Academy for the Arts’ mission to transform potential to expression. Located in the heart of the Fox Valley, VAA is a premier not-for-profit dance organization dedicated to ensuring that everyone in the community has access to the art and beauty of ballet. Our dancers are trained in both classical and contemporary ballet, with a foundation that promotes holistic wellness and personal growth.

Where the Wild Things Are not only showcases the talent of our young performers but also reflects the Academy’s commitment to storytelling, education, and community engagement. It is an invitation to dream, to move, and to reconnect with the wild child within all of us.

Join us for this captivating journey—where imagination runs free, creatures come to life, and the heart finds its way home.
